Choosing an integrated home solution

integrated homeIts everyone dream to have an ‘integrated home’ which usually consists of a great home cinema setup, thundering bass and a brilliant surround sound system. High levels of control are also common such as lighting, seating and heating control to achieve the optimal conditions for home entertainment. When it comes to choosing and installing the right equipment, it is easy to get bogged down in the details. There are many companies offering home cinemas and theatres so here is the information you need to know before you make your purchase.

Integrated home cinema systems are made up of three main components which are the speakers, amplifier and a control centre. Some systems have more advanced or elaborate features than others and can include additional features as mentioned previously.

Speakers – should cover at least 5 channels or audio. The general set up is front speakers, left and right, two surround sound speakers and one speaker in the centre. The general rule Is to have 5 small satellite speakers as well as one larger bass speaker which is known as a subwoofer. This subwoofer produces most of the low frequencies.

Amplifier – the purpose of the amplifier is to drive the speakers. Modern amplifiers are built into the speakers or the subwoofer.

A control centre – This is the source which connects all the media equipment in the room such as your blu ray, DVD player, lighting, volume, TV and more. A standard integrated home theatre receiver can double up as an amplifier and a control centre. Most units provide several inputs and can be operated using a remote control
