What is art? The age old question that no two people will share the same views about. Originally named as propaganda art because of ‘outside of the norm’ way of expression; Pop Art first became popular in the 1950’s. The art movement was set to change the way art was thought about  - with a completely different stance to traditional paintings and the like seen up until that point. It was a seen as abstract art, taking ideas from current advertisements and culture to create something that was about expression and changing the norm. Andy Warhol was a key artist in this movement, taking the most basic of images – Campbell’s soup can – and turning into something more appeasing on the eye through his own imagination.

Pop art has since proved a popular choice in recent times with many home design ideas coming from replica pop art pieces such as the printed Marilyn Monroe portraits that I am sure many of us have seen.

In a spin from pop art, the use of comic strips and characters is also a prominent feature in visual design ideas. Although not to everyone’s design tastes, the comic strip inspired work could bring back fond childhood memories, evoking positive emotions through a fun and vibrant channel.
